Police identify victim as 17-year-old "Rusty" Grewell, autopsy pending

NEWCOMERSTOWN, Ohio – Newcomerstown authorities have recovered the body of a teenager swept under while swimming in the Tuscarawas River last Sunday.

Newcomerstown Police Chief Gary Holland said that search and rescue personnel recovered the body of 17-year-old Bryan “Rusty” Grewell at around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Grewell is said to have disappeared on the afternoon of Sunday, August 10 while swimming in the Tuscarawas River.

Holland said that crews were able to resume their search of the river itself on Friday. Firefighters had been combing the river banks, but efforts to find Grewell had been frustrated by heavy rains, swift currents and rising waters.

Grewell's body was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark for an autopsy. AVC News will bring you more information as it becomes available.
