BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- A routine traffic stop early Thursday morning in Powhatan Point resulted in drug-related charges.
Investigators say a patrolman stopped an SUV that was speeding along State Route 7 at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. As the officer approached the driver's side window, he reportedly detected the odor of marijuana. Reports say the driver, 30-year-old Himansu Patel, became nervous once he was asked for identification. The driver allegedly acknowledged that he and the passenger, 23-year-old Devang Patel, had marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms in their possession.
During a search of the vehicle, investigators say they located about $1,300, 14 grams of mushrooms, marijuana, what appeared to be meth, THC pills and drug paraphernalia.
Himansu Patel and Devang Patel were arrested and taken to the Belmont County Jail. They both face charges that include possession of drugs and aggravated trafficking in drugs.
